We don’t work in isolation, but in a complex global supply chain. The UN Sustainable Development Goals serves as a guide for us to work on sustainability issues.
How Dynea adapts to
The UN Sustainable Development Goals
Goal 1: No poverty
This goal is set to eradicate extreme poverty throughout the world. This goal is highlighted as the biggest challenge and a crucial prerequisite for achieving all 17 sustainability goals.
Dynea contributes by:
- Eradicating poverty by employment. Dynea has 240 employees in Norway, Denmark, and Hungary, and it is ensured that all employees are paid above minimum wage.
- Value creation, and the purchase of raw materials, goods, and services from local and global suppliers.
- Paying tax values
Goal 2: Zero hunger
The aim for this goal is that all people should have access to nutritious and sustainable food all year round. Getting enough food to live a good life is a human right.
Dynea contributes by:
- Using raw materials that does not compete with food production.
- Supplying the Norwegian agriculture with class 0 compost, which is a byproduct from Dynea’s own Water Treatment Plant.
Goal 3: Good health and well-being
The population's health is influenced by the environment, economy, and social conditions. The UN defines good health and wellbeing as a fundamental prerequisite for people’s ability to reach their full potential and to contribute to development in the society.
Dynea contributes by:
- Prioritizing the health and safety of employees, neighbours, and Lillestrøm municipality, as reflected in ourHSEQ policy.
- Taking the health of employees serious, which is one reason why every employee attends a health check-up every 2-3 years.
- Continuously monitoring statistics on sick-leave, injuries, and accidents, and implement corrective measures where necessary.
- Work to prevent substance abuse amongst employees. Dynea ensures that employees with addiction issues get professional help and continue to function in a work context, as stated in our internal Drug and Abuse policy.
Goal 4: Quality education
Education is a basic human right, and this goal is set to ensure inclusive, fair, and good education, and promote opportunities for lifelong learning for all.
Dynea contributes by:
- Encouraging and supporting further education and contentious training of employees.
- Supporting local schools and relevant universities with sponsorships and by attending fairs.
Goal 5: Gender equality
This goal focus on achieving equality and strengthen the position of girls and women in society. Poverty is often closely linked to discriminatory laws and social norms which lead to women having poorer finances and fewer opportunities to decide on their own lives.
Dynea contributes by:
- Continuing the focus on diversity in the organization. Dynea has a total female share of 20%, and a female share of 23% in top management.
- Promoting a company culture which is revolved around a work environment where everyone can realize their potential regardless of gender, ethnicity, or age.
Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation
This goal focus on ensuring sustainable water management and access to water and good sanitation for everyone. There is enough fresh water in the world for everyone if it is managed the right way.
Dynea contributes by:
- Focusing on reduction of water use in production, reducing pollution, limiting the release of hazardous chemicals into water as much as possible.
- Recycling and safe reuse of purified water through the water treatment plant.
Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy
This goal puts focus on access to reliable, sustainable and modern energy at an affordable price.
Dynea contributes to this goal by:
- Producing steam from waste heat and energy from waste distillate, which is sold to tenants in the same industrial area.
- Optimizing the total energy use. Dynea was in Q2 2024 certified according to ISO 50001 Energy management
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
This goal is about promoting inclusive, lasting, and sustainable economic growth, full employment, and decent work for all. Therefore, fair economic growth and new jobs must be created.
Dynea contributes by:
- Focus on technological progress and innovation.
- Continuously improving the utilization of global resources in production.
- Contributing to achieve full and productive employment for all women and men and ensure equal pay for equal work.
- Giving apprentices opportunities to learn and develop and collaborating with students
- Protecting labor rights and promoting a safe and secure work environment for all employees.
Goal 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
Building solid infrastructure and promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and innovation is an integral way to increase the potential for sustainable development and growth in communities and countries.
Dynea contributes by:
- More efficient use of resources and more extensive use of clean and environmentally friendly forms of technology and industrial processes.
- Focus on sustainable innovation through collaboration with several segments of the corporation and external partners.
- Focus on energy use and effectivization on site according to ISO 50001 Energy Management.
Goal 10: Reduced inequalities
The target for this goal is to reduce inequalities within and between countries.
Dynea contributes by:
- Promoting equal opportunities regardless of age, gender, ethnicity and religion.
Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities
This goal involves making cities and local communities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. This includes access to basic services such as energy, housing, and transport.
Dynea contributes by
- Being an integrated part of the woodworking value chain in Norway, which contributes to sustainable urbanisation.
- Focusing on reducing the negative impact of cities and local communities on the environment, with particular emphasis on air quality and waste management.
- Supplying neighbouring production sites with energy, in the form of steam as by-product from the manufacturing process of formaldehyde.
Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
This goal revolves around sustainable production, which means doing more with less resources. Reducing resource use, environmental destruction, and climate emissions are key aspects to achieve goal 12.
Dynea contributes by:
- Documenting the product carbon footprint (PCF) and environmental declarations (EPD) for significant products.
- Focus on environmentally friendly management of chemicals and all forms of waste through the entire life cycle.
- Significantly reduce emissions of chemicals to air, water, and soil through monitoring and investing in better technology.
Goal 13: Climate action
This goal demands immediate action to combat climate change and its consequences. The overall goal is to limit the global temperature increase to well below 2 °C.
Dynea contributes by:
- Incorporating actions to reduce the environmental impact in policies and strategy.
- Strengthening knowledge around environmental impact and sustainability.
Goal 14: Life below water
Conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development is crucial, as the temperature, chemistry, currents, and life in the oceans are what drive the global systems that make it possible for humans to live on earth.
Dynea contributes by:
- Preventing and reducing pollution affecting life below water as a manufacturing site is located next to Nitelva river and Gullaugvika nature reserve.
- Treating wastewater from the entire industrial site through the Water Treatment Plant, which ensures that only clean water is released into the adjacent river.
Goal 15: Life on land
This goal focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting sustainable use of ecosystems, ensuring sustainable forest management, combat desertification, halt and reversing land degradation and halt loss of biodiversity.
Dynea contributes by:
- Limiting pollution of freshwater ecosystems in Nitelva and to industrial grounds.
Goal 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions
This goal promotes peaceful and inclusive societies to ensure sustainable development, access to justice for all, and well-functioning accountable and inclusive institutions on all levels.
Dynea contributes by:
- Ensuring a responsible and sustainable supply chain, which clearly communicates that Dynea does not accept any form of abuse, exploitation, human trafficking or any form of violence and harm towards children.
- Respecting the law and keeping an open dialogue and close corporation with local authorities.
- Not accepting corruption or bribery in any form.
- Promoting the company Code of Conduct and Supplier Code of Conduct.
- Committing to the Norwegian Transparency Act, which requires corporations to be fully transparent regarding human rights and decent working conditions both in their own operations and supply chains.
Goal 17: Partnership for the goals
To succeed with the sustainability goals, new and strong partnerships are necessary. Authorities, corporations, and civil society must work together to achieve sustainable development.

- Cooperation with customers to develop environmentally friendly technology together.
